If you love your coffee as much as I do, you’ll be pleased to hear that it could actually be one of the healthiest beverages on the planet. Many people, especially those consuming a standard western pattern diet, can get more antioxidants from coffee than both their fruit and vegetable intake combined. That said, like most things we love, unfortunately drinking too much can cause side effects you may wish to avoid such as insomnia digestive issues and anxiety. Try to consume a healthy balanced diet and limit yourself to drinking one or two daily shots maximum in the morning rather than afternoons if you can.
SILKY SOFT FEET
Coffee is excellent for your beauty routine! It’s packed with antioxidants and nutrients that can benefit your skin, hair and scalp, and the best news of all **it’s natural**. For your feet it’s absolutely amazing, it improves blood flow and removes dead skin, making them baby soft. My daughter and regularly pamper our feet using a home-made exfoliating coffee scrub, it’s so relaxing and smells just divine. Coffee grounds don’t dissolve in water making them a good exfoliant, they are actually great for scrubbing and studies have suggested that caffeic an antioxidant found in coffee can boost collagen levels, reduce the premature ageing of cells, and may also help to protect the skin against germs. For the perfect foot scrub, combine lemon juice with a quarter of one cup of fresh grounds and one quarter cup of brown sugar.
SUN PROTECTION & PUFFY EYES
Use a coffee paste and liquid to get rid of puffy eyes. As you get older, the skin in the lymphatic channel under your eye can become thinner, which makes it easier to see the blood vessels. Caffeine stimulates and increases blood flow, it widens or dilates the vessels, helping to naturally tighten the skin. Try gently dabbing a home-made paste of very finely ground coffee around your eye area along with cold liquid coffee. If you love to feel the sun on your face, you’ll be very pleased to hear that polyphenols found in coffee can help to protect against UV rays and anti-ageing, drinking your daily coffee or applying it directly to your skin are ways to get these antioxidants into your body.
For Acne sufferers, open up your pores and clear away any dead skin cells by gently massaging your face with coffee grounds, the chlorogenic acids in the coffee fight off bacteria and reduce inflammation. To make the perfect face mask make a paste using 240ml of milk, 240ml of grounds, apply to your face and leave for about 10 -15 minutes before thoroughly rinsing with lukewarm water.
You will find coffee as an ingredient in many beauty products as it contains many compounds that are of excellent benefit to our skin and hair. Making your own natural coffee scrub is a fun activity which you could add to the list for your next relaxing pampering evening with family or friends as it’s so easy to make, the most difficult thing I struggle with is finding a quiet stress-free weekend or evening when all the men are out of the house 🙂 Just make sure you purchase high quality freshly ground beans and give it a go.
